Samsung's new foldables, unveiled at Galaxy Unpacked, all share the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip from Qualcomm, a major shift from last year when the Z Flip 7 used Exynos 2500. After running a full suite of benchmark tests, the results are clear: these are the most powerful foldables ever tested. However, subtle performance variations reveal which model truly dominates.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra leads Geekbench 6 with record scores

In Geekbench 6.7 single-core and multi-core tests, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra averages 3,733 points single-core and 11,457 multi-core, breaking the 3,700 barrier. The standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 scores 3,659 single-core and 11,020 multi-core, while the Galaxy Z Flip 8 surprises with 3,627 single-core and 11,215 multi-core. The Flip 8 shows a 59% jump in single-core and 39% in multi-core compared to the Exynos-powered Flip 7. The Fold 8 Ultra also improves 22.3% single-core and 17.7% multi-core over the Fold 7. Against rivals, Samsung outperforms the Motorola Razr Ultra (2026) and Razr Fold, and crushes the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold with a 59.3% single-core and 80.9% multi-core advantage.

3DMark tests show the Fold 8 Ultra exceeding 30,000 points

In Wild Life Unlimited, the Fold 8 Ultra scores 30,980 points at 185.51 fps, followed by the Flip 8 with 29,723 points and 177.9 fps, which beats the standard Fold 8 (26,608 points, 165.3 fps). Year-over-year improvements are massive: the Flip 8 gains 55.3% in score and 55.2% in frame rate over the Flip 7. The Fold 8 Ultra increases 50.9% in score and 49.8% in frame rate over the Fold 7. Compared to rivals, the Flip 8 has a 21.6% edge over the Razr Ultra, while the Fold 8 Ultra leads the Razr Fold by 43.6% and the Pixel 10 Pro Fold by a staggering 132.8%.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 powers the entire lineup

Samsung's decision to use the same Qualcomm chip across all three foldables has resulted in unprecedented performance gains. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is the absolute performance king, but the compact Galaxy Z Flip 8 emerges as a surprise, proving that small size does not limit power. The standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 remains a reliable workhorse. With these results, Samsung raises the bar for the entire foldable category.

For those interested in software updates, note that Google now requires Android 7.0 or higher for Play Services, which also affects Samsung devices. For more on the chip specifications, see the Wikipedia page for the Galaxy Z series.
