Steam Machine starts at $1,049 with 512GB and no controller — Valve opens reservations with lottery system

[2026-06-22] Author: Meteora Web

The long-awaited Valve Steam Machine price has finally been revealed, and it is not cheap. The base configuration with 512GB of storage and no Steam Controller starts at $1,049. For those who want the bundle with the controller, the price is $1,128, offering a $21 discount compared to buying the peripheral separately at $99. Valve also noted that ordering the controller alone may result in delivery only in 2027, as the company is prioritizing bundles with the Steam Machine.

Price and available configurations

In addition to the 512GB version, Valve offers a 2TB storage variant for $1,349, or $1,428 bundled with the controller. The 2TB models also include alternate red fabric and solid walnut faceplates, an exclusive aesthetic touch for discerning buyers. All configurations share the same internal specs, simplifying the game compatibility verification program similar to the Steam Deck.

Lottery reservation system to fight scalpers

Valve has introduced an innovative lottery-based reservation system for the first batch of Steam Machines. To participate, you need a Steam account in good standing and at least one purchase on the platform before April 27. Sign-ups are open until 1 PM ET on June 25. After that, Valve will randomize entries to determine the reservation order and waitlist. Selected users will receive an email from June 29 with the option to purchase the machine. "We underestimated customer interest when we recently released the new Steam Controller," Valve wrote in a blog post, "and we wanted to create a system that would be less frustrating and more fair for everyone." The lottery system prevents bots and fast connections from gaining an advantage, and each household can get only one device.

Technical specifications and connectivity

The Steam Machine features a semi-custom AMD Zen 4 6C/12T processor and an AMD RDNA3 GPU with 28 Compute Units, paired with 16GB of DDR5 RAM and 8GB of GDDR6 VRAM. Storage is expandable via a microSD card slot, making it easy to move games between the Steam Machine and Steam Deck. Connectivity includes two USB 2.0 ports, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, one USB-C, DisplayPort 1.4, and HDMI 2.0. It supports Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi 6E, along with an integrated 2.4GHz receiver for the controller. All packed into a cube measuring about six inches on each side. As noted in a related article about the iPhone 17 price hike due to chip shortage, supply chain challenges affect many hardware launches.
