Google's AI agent, Gemini Spark, is now available on Mac. The company announced that the assistant is being added to the existing Gemini desktop app, along with several updates and new features, including the ability to stay up to date on topics in real time and support for additional apps like Google Tasks and Google Keep.
Integration with Keep and Tasks Addresses a Key Gap
When Gemini Spark launched last month, many users criticized the lack of integration with Keep, Google's notes app. Now Google has added support for both Tasks and Keep, allowing users to manage lists and reminders directly from the agent. Additionally, Spark integrates with third-party apps including Canva, Dropbox, Instacart, OpenTable, and Zillow Rentals, enabling tasks like reserving tables, ordering weekly groceries, designing flyers, or booking apartment tours. In a recent case, a competing AI Claude Opus 4.7 helped a researcher find a flaw in Front Gate Tickets, demonstrating how AI agents can be used beyond personal productivity.

Real-Time Monitoring for News, Sports, and Finance
Another major update is Spark's ability to monitor topics and react to events in real time. This improves performance for tasks involving tracking sports scores, stock movements, or breaking news. Spark can also keep an eye on social media, blogs, online shopping, and weather, making it a more versatile assistant.
Mac Debut Challenges Competing Desktop AI Agents
The arrival on macOS allows Gemini Spark to directly compete with other desktop AI agents like Claude Desktop, Microsoft Copilot, and others. With Spark on Mac, users can work with files on the computer and later handle remote tasks. For example, Spark can sort and organize files or use files as a source for a new Google Workspace document or spreadsheet. Google suggests Spark can turn invoices on the computer into a budgeting worksheet.

Limited Availability for Now
Currently, Gemini Spark for macOS (beta) is only available to Google AI Ultra subscribers in the US. It is not yet clear when it will roll out to other countries or subscription plans. However, Google announced that soon users will be able to assign multi-step tasks to Spark from their phone, such as calling the desktop agent to pull information from a file on the Mac.

Custom Model Context Protocol Support
Google also announced support for custom Model Context Protocol (MCP), allowing users to connect their favorite apps directly to Spark to build a more tailored assistant. This feature further expands automation and personalization possibilities. For more information on Gemini, refer to the Wikipedia page.
With these new features, Gemini Spark positions itself as an increasingly comprehensive AI assistant, deeply integrated into daily workflows for Mac users. The competition among desktop AI agents is intensifying, and Google aims to stand out through deep integration with its own services and third-party apps.
