In recent hours, a well-known leaker has shared new details about Google's Pixel 11 series. While the Pixel 11 launch is scheduled for next month, details about the Pixel 11a and the subsequent Pixel 12a are already emerging. According to leaker Mystic Leaks, Google has indeed improved the face unlock system on the Pixel 11, making it faster, more secure, and accurate in low-light conditions. The improvement likely comes from a software update, as the previously rumored infrared hardware is reportedly not yet ready for release.
The Tensor G6 chip will power the Pixel 11a
The Pixel 11a, codenamed "Formosan", will be equipped with the new Tensor G6 processor, a step forward from the Pixel 10a, which used the same chip as its predecessor due to high costs of the Tensor G5. In addition to the main chip, the device will integrate the latest Titan M3 security module, the PowerVR C-Series CXTP-48-1536 GPU, and the MediaTek M90 modem. RAM remains at 8 GB, a configuration that ensures good multitasking performance. Brighter display and slightly smaller battery
The 6.3-inch display maintains a 1080x2424 resolution but sees an increase in brightness: 2,250 nits HDR and 3,350 nits peak. However, the minimum battery capacity drops to 4,870 mAh, compared to 5,000 mAh on the Pixel 10a. As for the camera, the only leaked detail concerns a new front-facing sensor codenamed "dokkaebi". The color options are Obsidian (black) and Fog (silver), plus Olive (green) and Frost (purple). The Pixel 11a is expected to launch in March 2027, while the Pixel 12a has the codename "marmoset".
Improvements to Pixel 11 face unlock
According to the leaker, Google has worked to improve Face Unlock on the Pixel 11. A source stated that the experience will be faster, more secure, and accurate in low-light conditions. Previously, an infrared-based system was rumored, but in May Mystic Leaks said the hardware was not yet ready. The current update does not specify whether the improvements are software or hardware based. It is not obvious how algorithm updates could address the lack of light needed for the current camera-only approach.
