Amid recent price hikes affecting many Apple products, the Cupertino company has decided to offer an affordable alternative for those wanting an iPhone without breaking the bank. Starting today, the official refurbished online store includes the iPhone 16e, with savings ranging from $180 to $220 off the original MSRP. This move comes at a time of uncertainty over future price increases expected in September, and could represent the last chance to buy an iPhone at a reasonable price.

Concrete savings across all storage tiers

The entry-level iPhone 16e with 128GB of storage is priced at $419, saving $180 from the original $599. Moving up, the 256GB model costs $509 (saving $190), while the 512GB version is offered at $679, a discount of $220. All devices are unlocked and available in black and white, for a total of six variants to choose from. In addition to the iPhone 16e, the Apple refurbished store offers a wide range of other iPhones from the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 lines.

Apple's refurbishment process ensures superior quality

Buying a refurbished iPhone from Apple is not the same as buying a used device on eBay. The company thoroughly inspects each unit, replaces any defective parts with genuine components, cleans it, and repackages it in a new box with all accessories. The result is a device virtually indistinguishable from new. Those who have tried the experience confirm: my colleague Thomas Deehan purchased a refurbished iPhone 16 from Giffgaff and described it as "almost identical to one that could be bought brand new via the Apple Store." I myself bought a MacBook Pro M1 Pro from Apple's refurbished store, and when it arrived, it was indistinguishable from a new device, with only five battery cycles registered.

An opportunity before possible September price hikes

Sources close to the company suggest that Apple may increase iPhone prices starting September 2026. If these rumors prove true, the current offer of refurbished iPhone 16e models might be the last chance to get an Apple phone at a favorable price. For those who don't want to take risks, buying a refurbished unit directly from Apple represents a safe choice, with the guarantee of a refurbished product meeting high standards. Other retailers, like Giffgaff, also offer competitive deals, but Apple's warranty remains an added value.
