Dyson has expanded its cordless vacuum lineup in 2026 with three new models: the V16 Piston Animal, V10 Konical, and V8 Cyclone. They join the existing V15 Detect and Gen5Detect, creating a wide but potentially confusing choice for consumers. We tested all five models in a series of practical challenges to determine which offers the best value and which suits different household needs.

V10 Konical Wins Sand Cleaning on Rug

The first test involved removing fine sand from a dark rug. The V10 Konical performed best, leaving only a thin trail of sand in the center, while the V15 Detect left a wider streak. The V8 Cyclone, however, stalled completely and could not pick up sand at all. The more powerful Gen5Detect and V16 Piston Animal struggled on the thin rug due to excessive suction lifting the rug, scattering sand. On a thicker rug, the Gen5Detect redeemed itself, picking up all sand in a single pass.

Gen5Detect Dominates Cereal Test

To simulate everyday crumbs, we scattered whole and crushed Cheerios on a rug. All models performed well, but the Gen5Detect sent no pieces flying, while others scattered a few. The V16 Piston Animal lost only a single fragment, ranking second.

Cat Litter Cleaning: Gen5Detect and V16 Still on Top

On vinyl flooring, we tested cat litter removal. Models with the Fluffy Optic head (V15, V16, Gen5Detect) had a clear advantage. The Gen5Detect left the floor spotless with no dust traces, while the V16 pushed a small amount of litter forward only with very thick piles. The V10 Konical required two passes, and the V8 Cyclone pushed litter into a pile, requiring extra maneuvering.

Handheld Mode: V16 and Gen5Detect Excel on Stairs

All five models work well as handheld vacuums, but the V16 and Gen5Detect stand out with noticeable suction power and excellent results on carpeted stairs, filling their bins with dust and hair. Both feature built-in crevice tools, but the V16's tool remains attached, while the Gen5Detect's must be removed for handheld use.

In summary, the Gen5Detect is the best Dyson vacuum of 2026, closely followed by the V16 Piston Animal. The V10 Konical offers great value for budget-conscious buyers, while the V8 Cyclone disappoints in tougher tests. The V15 Detect remains a solid mid-range option. Given rising prices in consumer electronics, as reported in this article on Roku price hikes, investing in a quality vacuum that lasts is wise.
