I gave it another try and realized how much time I had wasted with the old five-step process: screenshot, leave the app, open Lens, upload, wait. Circle to Search cut that friction completely, making visual search a reflex. Now I use it for everything from plant identification to landmark recognition without a second thought.

AI call screening became an invisible assistant
Letting a robot answer calls felt rude, and early attempts like Bixby Text Call confirmed it: awkward synthetic voice, cumbersome setup. Then Pixel Call Screen showed the hands-off approach, and Samsung finally caught up with One UI 8.5's Auto screen calls. My phone now answers unknown numbers, asks who's calling, and takes a message before I even notice. The voice is still synthetic but much closer to Gemini Live than the robotic text-to-speech of the past. Couriers and doctor's offices leave messages without hanging up, and spam is filtered at the source.
Real-time translation found its ideal form
Live translation was the keynote feature nobody actually used. Foldables solved the phone hand-off problem by using Flex Mode to show the translation on the cover screen, but foldable prices were prohibitive. The breakthrough came with earbuds: the Pixel Buds Pro 2 deliver real-time translation without any screen interaction. Traveling without language barriers is now a reality, and the only remaining frontier is translating what my cat is saying.

AI photo editing went from gimmick to invisible
