iOS 27 Beta 2 Introduces Wallet Insights Feature for Banking Spend Tracking

[2026-06-22] Author: Meteora Web

Apple has added a new Insights feature to the Wallet app in the second beta of iOS 27, aiming to turn the app into a full-fledged personal finance manager. Users can link checking accounts, credit cards, and debit cards to view spending summaries, recurring transactions, and updated balances directly from Wallet. The feature was discovered by developers and beta testers, who noticed a new three-dot button in the upper right corner of the app. Tapping it reveals a splash screen explaining that the device connects to the financial institution through an Apple wholly owned subsidiary, which fetches, categorizes, and standardizes account information for display on the device. Importantly, account information is not stored on Apple servers, emphasizing privacy and security.

Despite the excitement, the feature is not yet functional. The splash screen offers a 'Continue' button that leads to the Add to Wallet interface but with no actual options to link accounts. This appears to be a backend preview while Apple finalizes integration with financial institutions. The move follows the limited success of the Connected Cards feature introduced in iOS 17.1, which allowed linking select cards from participating issuers. Adoption was poor: Discover implemented support but removed it in early June 2026, and almost no other U.S. issuers ever used it. Only a few UK banks maintain deeper integration with Connected Cards.

A Successor to Connected Cards Without Requiring Issuer Support

Insights may be the solution Apple needed: it does not require individual institutions to adopt a specific API, instead using a universal connection via Apple's subsidiary. The fine print suggests Apple aggregates financial data in a standardized way, bypassing the need for bilateral agreements with thousands of banks. If confirmed, this system could finally give millions of users a unified view of their finances directly from Wallet, without third-party apps like Mint or YNAB. Competition with similar services from Google and Samsung becomes fiercer.

The arrival of Insights fits into a broader overhaul of iOS 27, which already introduced features like Mac-like recovery mode and advanced AI capabilities. For those already in the Apple ecosystem, this function could increase the iPhone's value as a daily tool. It is unclear whether Insights will be limited to the U.S. or expand to Europe, given different banking regulations. Meanwhile, Apple continues to push Wallet as the hub for payments and financial management, as also seen with discounts on AirTag 2 and updates on the Apple Watch Ultra 4.

Technically, Apple's subsidiary handling bank connections operates similarly to Plaid or Yodlee, but with the advantage of native OS integration. Privacy remains a key point: data is not stored but processed locally to generate summaries. This approach could convince even skeptical users to trust Wallet for expense tracking. If the feature passes beta, it may debut with the public release of iOS 27 expected in September 2026. In the meantime, beta testers can prepare to test one of the most interesting additions to this release. For more details on technical specifications, refer to the Wikipedia page on iOS 27.
