With the release of iOS 27, Apple introduces new Apple Intelligence features that make the Calendar and Reminders apps more intuitive and powerful. While the overall interface remains similar to iOS 26, the novelties focus on natural language interaction, Siri integration, and Visual Intelligence.
Natural Language for Calendar
The Calendar app now supports natural language input. As you type, Apple Intelligence recognizes people, dates, and places, offering suggestions you can tap to quickly add information. It is not as fluid as Fantastical, but it is a clear improvement. For example, if you type "meeting at 2pm with Eric on July 14", the system suggests July 14 and automatically sets the time. However, you need to tap the date suggestion, while the time is applied without intervention.

Natural Language for Reminders
The Reminders app also benefits from natural language. You can type "get groceries at 6pm tonight" or "send photos to John tomorrow at 4pm", and the app auto-fills date, time, and location. The feature is in beta and not perfectly consistent: sometimes you need to tap the suggestion, sometimes it works automatically. With this addition, Apple removed the bottom menu bar for quick entry; to add images or metadata like flags, you now use the "Details" interface.
Event Editing and Holiday-Aware Alarms
Event editing is simpler and faster. If you change the frequency of an event, Calendar can intelligently apply changes to all recurring events. Siri can be used to edit events. Additionally, Calendar tracks holidays and the day before asks if you want to adjust your wake-up alarm.

Large Widgets
Calendar and Reminders now offer an extra-large widget that takes up an entire app page. Perfect for a full overview at a glance.
Siri and Artificial Intelligence
Siri has full access to your calendar and can add events with natural language requests. It works better than before, correctly handling dates and parameters like recurrence. Just describe the event and Siri creates it. Siri can also search both Calendar and Reminders, knowing your schedule and to-do list. The feature integrates with apps like Mail and Messages.
Visual Intelligence
With Visual Intelligence, you can add multiple events at once by taking a photo of a document with a list of dates, such as a child's sports practice schedule. The app recognizes the dates and imports them into the calendar.

Grocery Lists and Shortcuts Enhancements
The Reminders app improves grocery list sorting and supports more languages. In the Shortcuts app, new Reminders actions include Create Group, Create List, Create Section, Delete Groups, Delete Lists, and Delete Sections. There is also a new "Get What's On Screen" option for Reminders. To use Apple Intelligence features in iOS 27, you need an iPhone 15 Pro or later. These innovations, as seen in other AI contexts like AWS Context, show how AI is becoming more pervasive. For further reading, check Wikipedia's page on Apple Intelligence.
