If you have played Wordle for thousands of days, you might wonder if it is still fun or just a way to keep a streak alive. Personally, I have discovered an alternative that has hooked me and my friends: MapTap, a daily geography game available as an app and on the web. Each day, MapTap presents five questions, each showing a city or a historic location to tap on a map. You get a score from 0 to 100 for each clue, depending on how close you are. The first clue is easy, like a major world capital, while the last might be a remote island in the Pacific. On harder questions, your score is multiplied by 2 or 3, making the total out of 1,000. Personally, I consider any score over 900 pretty good, but some perfectionists aim for a perfect score.

Just like Wordle, you get a fun text to share in group chats. Here is an example: 'www.maptap.gg June 18 100🎯 90🎉 97🔥 85🌟 63🤨 Final score: 828'. You do not have to be a geography whiz to start playing, but the game rewards those who are. The best part is that you actually learn: after each puzzle, the game provides a few informative paragraphs about each location. I recently enjoyed a themed puzzle about the life of Ibn Battuta, a 14th-century explorer. Unlike other geography games like Worldle or Globle, MapTap lets you take a stab at a clue even if you are unsure, avoiding the frustration of being stuck. You can always try and see how close you were. If you are tired of Wordle, try MapTap and share your results. Discuss with friends whether the location of the Battle of Midway is common knowledge. It is fun.
