The summer of 2026 is proving particularly hot for the GPU market, at least in South Korea. Starting this month, prices for Nvidia's GeForce RTX 50 series graphics cards are rising by as much as 30% depending on the model and manufacturer. The main culprit is the increase in production costs, particularly advanced wafers from TSMC and GDDR7 memory modules. According to data collected by South Korean price comparison site Danawa, the RTX 5060 Ti 8GB has risen from about 600,000 to 700,000 won (from roughly $420 to $490), while the RTX 5070 has seen an increase of about 200,000 won, reaching 1.1 million won (around $770). But it is the RTX 5090, the flagship of the series, that marks the most striking leap: depending on the model and brand, prices can reach up to 7.3 million won, equivalent to about $5,112, an increase that can touch 1.5 million won (around $1,050) compared to last month.

The main reason for this escalation is twofold. On one hand, TSMC has communicated to its clients a price increase across its entire advanced manufacturing portfolio, which does not only affect the 3nm node but also 7nm and legacy technologies.
