Ray-Ban Meta Optics: Prescription smart glasses with better fit, action button and longer battery life

Wearing smart glasses with prescription lenses has become much more practical thanks to the new Ray-Ban Meta Optics. Meta designed a specific line of frames optimized for people who need corrective lenses, not just those who want fashionable smart shades. I tested the Scriber model for two weeks and discovered the pros and cons of this solution that combines style and artificial intelligence.

Redesigned frames for a superior fit

The Ray-Ban Meta Optics are based on the second-generation Ray-Ban Meta design, but with substantial changes to ensure greater comfort throughout the day. The inner nosepads are now swappable: the package includes three options (universal fit, high bridge, and low bridge) to adapt the frame to your nose shape. In my test, switching to the high bridge pads immediately reduced slipping compared to previous models. Additionally, the temples can be heat-molded at a Meta store or optician for even more precise customization. The overextension hinges also help reduce pressure behind the ears, making the experience pleasant even after hours of wear.

Action button for quick commands and extended battery

An exclusive feature of the Optics line is the customizable action button, already seen on the Oakley Meta Vanguard but now more discreetly integrated at the end of the capture control. Using the Meta AI app, you can assign a shortcut, such as "read my latest text message." I found this ideal: instead of automatically announcing every notification, I can press the button only when I want to hear messages, without disturbing ongoing conversations. Battery life has improved: while the Gen 2 promised up to 8 hours, the new Optics are rated for "more than 8 hours." With moderate use of music and AI, I easily exceeded 8 hours without charging. For those who want an always-on assistant, Hey Meta support is available with an extended listening window (20 seconds), but it is advisable to disable it in private settings.

Meta AI powered by Muse Spark: faster and more conversational

The real heart of the Ray-Ban Meta Optics is the AI assistant, now based on Meta's Muse Spark model. Compared to the previous version, the AI is more responsive and can handle interruptions and follow-up questions without repeating the voice command. I appreciated the ability to ask for nutritional information by looking at food, but the feature is not yet perfect: sometimes it fails to activate the camera or provides inaccurate data (e.g., avocado size). However, the AI handled a joke question about my cat with wit, showing impressive contextual understanding. Overall, integration with Meta's services is smooth, allowing control of messages, calls, and other voice commands naturally.

Comparing these glasses to other wearables like the Apple Watch Ultra 4, Meta aims for an always-connected experience without needing to look at a screen. Similarly, iOS 27 adds recovery mode that could integrate similar features. The Ray-Ban Meta Optics represent a step forward for those who do not want to give up vision correction but desire a wearable AI assistant. The $499 price for the frame, plus custom prescription lenses, is high but justified by build quality and advanced features. For more information on smart glasses, check the Wikipedia page.
