Samsung's upcoming One UI 9 update, based on Android 17, is set to introduce powerful new customization options for the home screen. Early screenshots from the Home Up module in Good Lock reveal two major features: enhanced dock personalization and support for multi-finger gestures. These additions aim to give users greater control over their device's interface and streamline everyday tasks.

Dock customization with backgrounds, blur, and adjustable app count

One of the standout features is the ability to customize the dock background. Users can apply colors, blur effects, or even images behind their most-used apps. Additionally, the number of apps in the dock can now be adjusted independently of the home screen grid, allowing for a more tailored layout. This builds on existing Home Up capabilities such as grid size customization and settings backup.

Multi-finger gestures for quick actions and shortcuts

Another significant addition is multi-finger gesture support. Users can assign specific actions to gestures like swiping in a direction, pinching, and more. Possible actions include swapping or launching apps, adjusting volume, opening search, changing brightness, and taking screenshots. This feature is designed to make navigation faster and reduce reliance on traditional buttons and menus.

Expected availability with Galaxy Z Fold 8 series and beta on S26

One UI 9 is expected to debut on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Flip 8 series, likely during the Unpacked event on July 22, before rolling out to older devices. A beta version is already being tested on the Galaxy S26 series. Samsung has not confirmed an exact timeline, but the early leaks suggest a launch later this month.
