Apple Faces Two Futures: A Holographic 'Spatial iPhone' and a 250 Million Dollar Siri Settlement

[2026-05-07] Author: Ing. Calogero Bono

The tech world is buzzing as two major Apple stories converge on the same week. On one side, a tantalizing rumor suggests Apple is deep into research on a holographic display for a future 'Spatial iPhone'. On the other, the company has agreed to a $250 million settlement to resolve a class-action lawsuit over delayed Siri features, offering eligible U.S. customers up to $95 per device.

The H1 Display and the Road to Spatial Computing

Leaker Schrödinger, citing supply chain sources, reports that Apple is working on a display codenamed MH1 or H1, developed with Samsung. This is not a simple glasses-free 3D screen. It uses diffractive beam-steering, a technique where microscopic structures in the display layer bend and direct light precisely to the viewer's eyes, creating the illusion of depth. A nano-structured holographic layer is integrated into the AMOLED stack, allowing images to appear to float above the glass. Users could tilt the device to see around objects in a video, offering a 360-degree rotation effect. The display maintains full 4K resolution for standard 2D use, activating holographic depth only for specific content, a feature dubbed Zero Clarity Loss. The technology is still in phase 1 of R&D, with a consumer timeline around 2030. Apple's SVP John Ternus recently called spatial computing an inevitability. Who Gets Paid in the Siri Lawsuit?

Apple has agreed to pay $250 million to settle a U.S. class action over false advertising. The lawsuit, filed in March 2025, claimed Apple misled consumers by showing advanced Siri features at WWDC 2024 that were later delayed. The settlement provides $25 per eligible device, potentially rising to $95 if fewer claims are filed. Eligible customers are U.S. residents who purchased an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or any iPhone 16 model (including the iPhone 16e) between June 10, 2024 and March 29, 2025. A claims website will launch in the coming months. Tim Cook confirmed the personalized Siri update will arrive later this year with iOS 27.

Education, Developers, and Trademarks

Apple also expanded its Education Store to include the Apple Watch in several countries, offering up to 10% discounts for students. With WWDC 2026 exactly a month away, Apple celebrated 350 Swift Student Challenge winners, with 50 Distinguished Winners invited to Cupertino. In trademark news, Apple successfully challenged a Chinese keyboard maker's citrus logo at the EUIPO, citing its own iconic apple mark. Lastly, a great deal for shoppers: Amazon is currently selling the A16 iPad starting at just $299. An external reference on holographic display technology can be found on MacRumors.
