ProtoArc Flexer Pro: a steal at half price
This ergonomic chair from ProtoArc, launched last year at around $400, is now available for $176, the lowest price ever. It offers multiple adjustments: seat depth, multiple recline angles, and four-way adjustable armrests. Build quality and aesthetics are impressive for under $200, with a five-year warranty covering entire college years. The only downsides are a detachable lumbar support that pops off too easily and it is not ideal for people over 6 feet tall.

Staples Dexley: the budget chair queen
Staples dominates the low-cost chair market, and the Dexley is the most ergonomic model consistently under $200 (currently $169). The mesh seat provides excellent airflow, assembly is easy, and adjustments are decent. The five-year warranty gets students through most degree programs. The mesh can be scratchy for shorts wearers, but overall it is a solid chair for late-night study sessions. Note that the Dexley is always on sale, but better prices were seen earlier this summer.
Staples Essentials: the entry-level choice
For very tight budgets, the Staples Essentials is the Dexley's cheaper sibling, currently at $120. It is not the lowest price ever (sometimes it drops below $100), but it still beats any budget chair from Amazon brands. It is one of the cheapest chairs with a five-year warranty. However, the lower price means fewer ergonomic adjustments. For students with back pain, we recommend the Dexley as a baseline. In a cost crunch, the Essentials is the cheapest chair WIRED recommends.
