The latest trailer for Dune: Part 3, released on July 8, 2026, offers a deep dive into Denis Villeneuve's trilogy closer. Set 17 years after Paul Atreides ascends the imperial throne, the film explores the corrupting nature of power and the holy war against the Great Houses. Among close-quarter combat and political unrest, five disturbing details stand out.

Robert Pattinson's chilling gaze as Scytale

Robert Pattinson portrays Scytale, a platinum-haired shapeshifting Face Dancer from the Tleilaxu. In the trailer, his piercing eyes hint at a meticulous plan to unseat Paul. Pattinson, known for his role in The Dark Knight, brings a silent menace that might steal the show. His shapeshifting ability is one of the most insidious weapons against the Emperor.

Alia Atreides' blood-curdling scream

Anya Taylor-Joy plays Alia, Paul's sister, labeled an abomination by Reverend Mother Mohiam because Lady Jessica consumed the Water of Life during pregnancy. In the trailer, Alia appears covered in blood while screaming with superhuman force, likely unleashing her paranormal powers on Mohiam. It is not a scream of fear but a terrifying command.

Paul's blindness after the Stone Burner

Near the end of the trailer, Paul is hit by a Stone Burner bomb in the capital Arrakeen. The explosion blinds him, leaving his eyes severely damaged. This physical blindness opens new dimensions of his prescient vision, as foreshadowed in Frank Herbert's novels. Paul is forced into exile in the deep desert, following Fremen traditions.

Clone Hayt: Duncan Idaho returns as an assassin

Jason Momoa reprises his role as Duncan Idaho, but this is not the same character. Revived as a Ghola clone named Hayt, he wears a crisp white uniform and harshly criticizes Paul for destroying thousands of worlds. However, Hayt harbors a hidden agenda: to assassinate the Emperor deemed beyond redemption. This plot point stays true to the novel Dune: Messiah.

The ominous entrance of Navigator Edric

Fans have long lamented the absence of the Spacing Guild in previous films. Now, the trailer shows a floating coffin tank containing Edric, a Navigator mutated by the spice Melange. His pod glides silently into a Heighliner starship, signaling a crucial role in the conspiracy to overthrow Paul. The visual rendering of this alien being is spine-chilling.

For those who enjoy creative crossovers, a modder recently built a Grand Theft Auto multiverse with real-time portals. But back to Dune, the film is set for release on December 18, 2026, by Warner Bros. For more on the original story, see the Wikipedia page for the novel.
