With the upcoming release of iOS 27 this fall, Apple Wallet is getting several updates that aim to make the app a central hub for all types of passes, payments, and travel services. New features include the ability to create custom passes, split bills using Apple Cash, a recurring transactions hub for Apple Card, and an enhanced hotel key experience. Here are the details.

Pass creation with AI or manual via the new plus button

One of the most anticipated additions is the Create a Pass feature, accessible by tapping the plus button in the Wallet app on iOS 27. It allows users to generate a pass in two ways: using next-generation Apple Intelligence to automatically create a pass from a paper ticket or QR code, or manually. The manual mode offers three options: Standard, Membership, and Event. Apple aims to make Wallet the go-to place for all kinds of passes, both digital and physical, reducing reliance on third-party apps or paper tickets.

Split bills with Apple Cash directly from receipt scanning

Another interesting feature is Split Bill with Apple Cash. When using the new Siri mode in the Camera app to scan a receipt, an option to split the bill with Apple Cash appears. From Wallet, users can choose between 'Request' payment from others or 'Pay Your Share'. The process is quick and encourages the use of Apple Cash for everyday payments among friends or colleagues. For Apple Card users, iOS 27 introduces a dedicated hub for recurring transactions. Accessing the three-dot menu in the top-right corner of the Apple Card screen reveals a new Recurring option. This section shows all upcoming recurring transactions, viewable in a monthly calendar or as a list. It is a useful tool for tracking subscriptions and anticipating future charges, helping with personal budget management.

Enhanced hotel keys with trip details and real-time updates

The most exciting feature for travelers is the enhanced hotel key experience. According to an Apple press release, with iOS 27 Wallet will offer an upgraded experience for participating hotels and resorts. Beyond unlocking rooms and amenities using iPhone or Apple Watch, guests will be able to view more trip details, receive timely updates about booked activities, and access available services during their stay, all within Wallet. This integration aims to simplify travel by reducing the need for separate apps or paper cards. During the iOS 27 betas, an Insights feature for tracking spending across multiple cards appeared but has since been removed, at least in the US. It may return in a future update. In the meantime, the confirmed features are already impressive.
