Apple is set to break the mold with two entirely new iPhone designs in the coming year. The first is the foldable iPhone Ultra, debuting this fall. The second concerns the 2027 Pro models, marking the 20th anniversary, which according to the latest leaks will feature a glass construction and a thinner profile similar to the iPhone Air. The news comes from Chinese leaker Fixed Focus Digital, who shared detailed updates on both products.

After years of iPhones looking nearly identical year after year, the shift began with last year's bold iPhone 17 Pro design and the futuristic iPhone Air. Now Apple is ready to push even further, with radical changes both this year and next. The first major event is set for September, when the iPhone Ultra, the company's first foldable model, will be officially unveiled.

iPhone Ultra Production Hits No Snags

Leaker Fixed Focus Digital shared an encouraging update on the foldable's production. In his post on Weibo, he states there have been no delays for the iPhone Ultra. Despite an initial issue with production scaling, the problem has been resolved, and by the end of July, the production line was completed. This means the iPhone Ultra could be revealed within weeks, even though a slight delay to October and limited initial availability remain real possibilities. The news comes at a critical time, as consumers eagerly await Apple's first foldable, which promises to compete directly with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, set to launch soon.

20th Anniversary Pro Models Focus on Glass and Ultra-Thin Design

In a separate post, the same leaker revealed interesting details about the upcoming 2027 iPhone Pro models, which will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the lineup. According to Fixed Focus Digital, the new models will feature a glass construction and a thickness comparable to that of the iPhone Air. This leak raises more questions than it answers. On one hand, a more extensive glass structure could represent a stylistic breakthrough, but on the other, an ultra-thin profile seems at odds with the needs of the Pro line, traditionally thicker to accommodate larger batteries and advanced camera systems. Moreover, the reference to glass construction is ambiguous, as current Pro models already use a mix of glass and aluminum. However, some earlier rumors suggested Apple wanted to introduce a design with a higher percentage of glass, so we might see more significant changes than expected.

These leaks come amid intense activity for Apple. In recent months, the company has introduced updates like Google Health 5.05 improving sync with Apple Health, and has launched a legal battle against the UK iCloud backdoor order. Additionally, five new products are expected in September, including the iPhone 18 Pro and Apple Watch Series 11. Apple's strategy seems to be increasingly differentiating its lines, offering unique designs for each market segment. While the iPhone Ultra focuses on flexibility, the 20th anniversary Pro models could redefine the concept of premium with an all-glass aesthetic.

According to analysts, Apple's decision to differentiate designs could prove successful in countering competition and boosting sales. However, the technical challenge of creating a thin device with top-tier performance is not trivial. It will be interesting to see how Apple balances lightness and functionality. In any case, the coming months are set to be crucial for the future of iPhones, with the iPhone Ultra potentially paving the way for a new era of foldable devices from Apple.
