Mukesh Ambani Aims AI for Every Call, App, and Home with Reliance Jio

Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani is redefining the role of artificial intelligence in daily life for over 500 million users. At Reliance Industries' annual shareholder meeting, the Mumbai-based conglomerate unveiled a suite of AI services integrated directly into the Jio network, transforming every phone call, app, and even the home into an intelligent ecosystem.

Jio Call Agent: The AI That Joins Your Calls

The most groundbreaking innovation is Jio Call Agent, an AI assistant that can join phone calls to transcribe conversations, generate summaries, and perform tasks such as booking cabs, ordering food, or making reservations. Activated by saying "Hey Jio", the service is expected to launch later this year for all Jio users. Instead of offering a standalone app, Reliance chose to embed the AI directly into the network, making the assistant a native feature of phone calls. This strategy could reduce reliance on third-party apps and give Reliance a powerful distribution advantage in a crowded AI market.

MyJio AI and TeleFrame: Expanding Intelligence

Beyond the call agent, Reliance unveiled an AI-powered version of the MyJio app that can perform tasks like activating eSIMs or selecting roaming plans through natural-language commands. The company also introduced TeleFrame, a home display that uses AI agents to proactively surface information and recommendations, such as weather alerts, reminders, and schedule updates. TeleFrame fits into the global trend of ambient AI assistants, an area explored by Amazon and Google, but with the advantage of deep integration into Jio's services.

India's AI Push and Jio's Upcoming IPO

These announcements mark a new phase for Reliance's AI ambitions as India seeks to build domestic capabilities in a field dominated by the US and China. During the meeting, Ambani stated that India should not be a mere consumer of AI created elsewhere but must become a creator and global leader. Meanwhile, Jio Platforms' board approved a draft prospectus for an initial public offering, including a fresh issue of up to 270 million shares, a major milestone for investors awaiting Jio's stock market debut.

Reliance has been scaling up its AI efforts through partnerships with Google, Meta, and Nvidia, announcing a $110 billion investment in AI infrastructure. Recently, it collaborated with Meta to build an AI data center in Gujarat. However, questions remain about data privacy: the company assured user consent but did not clarify if data could be used to train AI models or shared with partners. Reliance's push comes as other Indian giants like Tata Consultancy Services and Adani Group accelerate their AI projects.
