OpenAI held its second livestream this week today, announcing what it called "the next chapter for ChatGPT." The event unveiled a new work agent called ChatGPT Work, a revamped ChatGPT desktop app with Codex integrated, and a new hosted sites service for enterprise customers. Simultaneously, the company released GPT-5.6 models, named Sol, Terra, and Luna, which were first teased at the end of June.
ChatGPT Work redefines how we work with AI
The new ChatGPT Work is an agent specialized in handling complex tasks. Unlike the standard version, Work can coordinate multiple agents across parallel workflows, accelerating tasks that require high reasoning ability. During the demo, the team showed how Work can analyze documents, generate reports, and integrate data from disparate sources, all within an improved conversational interface. This capability aligns with OpenAI's strategy to make AI a productive tool for businesses, similar to what we have seen with Slack integrated with Salesforce.

GPT-5.6 Sol sets a new standard for intelligence and efficiency
The flagship model, GPT-5.6 Sol, achieves state-of-the-art results in coding, knowledge work, cybersecurity, and science. OpenAI emphasizes that Sol outperforms competing models with fewer tokens and at lower cost. The new "ultra" setting allows coordinating multiple agents to complete complex tasks faster. Additionally, GPT-5.6 improves design judgment: with only high-level direction, it creates tasteful, ergonomic, and functional interfaces, inspecting and refining the rendered result before delivery. This is a significant step forward for visual content and website generation.

Competitive pricing for GPT-5.6 API
OpenAI also announced API pricing: Sol costs $5 per million tokens input and $30 output; Terra $2.50 and $15; Luna $1 and $6. This pricing tier makes the models accessible for various needs, from heavy lifting to lighter tasks. The models will roll out over the next 24 hours. Codex now integrated into the ChatGPT desktop app
Another major update is the integration of Codex, the AI-assisted coding tool, directly into the ChatGPT desktop app for macOS and Windows. Users can now edit Markdown and code directly in the app, use inline annotations, and review GitHub pull requests in the sidebar. Codex becomes a full development environment with support for multi-repository projects. Existing Codex users can upgrade while keeping projects, settings, and workflows. The desktop app also received a more native macOS redesign.

OpenAI also announced that GPT-5.4 will be retired on July 23, while GPT-5.5 models remain available. For more information on the models, check the Wikipedia page on OpenAI.
